  2. N Scale is the closest you will get (its 12mm as compared to the games 10mm scale). We use a 1/180th for our scale that works out to one-inch equaling 15feet. Doorways should be about 15mm/9/16ths inch. I use mainly 2" tall trees.

Also anything scaled for printing 3d for BT run at 150-160 percent and you should be fine.

  3. Where it gets messed up is how you define the height of an average person and whether you measure from bottom of foot to top of head or to eye level.  This is how I come up with the scale we use (1/180). We figure the 10mm from bottom of foot to eye level with an average height male at 6 feet (72"). Using the "idealistic" proportions seen here...

    See the source image

This puts our eye level at 67.5 inches i.e. 10mm and an actual scale of 1/171.45 which is a weird number. I rounded up to 180 as at this scale the difference is just a "sliver" anyway and it makes it work out to 1"=15 feet for easier measuring. I guess you can call ours Heroic 10mm 🙂

Back in the days of old they used a 5'3" as average height while the average height in the US today for a male is 5'9". Using those numbers for 10mm you get 1/150 and 1/164 with the "idealistic" male. Hence why there are so many different right answers! 🙂

  4. The back building look a little small for CAV but are fine to play with. Doing big buildings proper is always tough in 10mm scale at time. Use this for a guide...1" in CAV equals 15 feet (so pretty close to 1 foot to 1/16" making a standard a building "floor" measure around 3/4" for 10feet, with doors being around 7/16". As sort of reference on how big a building would be...the Empire state building would measure (in 10mm) 28.25" x 12.5" x 97" (Tall!)!

I like to use google maps to size real world building to get an idea of the area most common buildings would cover.

Here is one of our MDF buildings and it is 6 stories tall. Most CAVs are around three stories tall.

  5. Correct on the variants. The Glaive is a Halberd variant.

No there is no drawback for just playing a merc force. We have some things coming down the pipe to make playing a faction force more attractive so stay tuned.

There is not a pdf right now. We are getting ready to release a rules update that will include the core rules and any changes/errata that will be in pdf form (and later reprinted in the Rules of Engagement campaign guide next year). The pdf will be available this upcoming January.

  6. Way back when I used to get a piece of light canvas from Joanns (or any other fabric store) and mix up a bucket of warm water with just enough paint in it to dye the fabric. Make sure its well soaked and then "wring" out before hanging up to dry. It drys with lots of light/dark spots that give it a very mottled look. After drying I would come back and use a sponge to daub on various other shades (darker greens and light browns) to enhance it even more. They always turned out pretty great and you can make them as long as the piece of fabric is you get.

  7. Just a quick note that there will be no CAV HQ Live! tonight due to the holiday. We will be back next week as we start work on the Rach OpFor and discuss a new scenario that we will be releasing that day. Happy Thanksgiving for all of our US players. Be safe! CB

  8. AN interesting question came up last night on the twitch stream about using infantry models with Salvo Fire. Can you do it? Yes. Infantry models in the same squad with the same weapon system (i.e., all automatic rifles) can combine their attack into a single role, adding a +1 for each additional model contributing to the attack. Obviously if the weapon system couldn't damage a certain type of model to begin with, all the pluses in the world won't help or change that fact! 🙂

  9. Things learned today.

    1. Again it's a numbers game. The side with more squads gets more cards in the initiative deck and more opportunities to react to and counter enemy moves.

Absolutely. This is designed to give forces with more flexible builds (more squads) to have a greater effect on game play while also discouraging points heavy squads.

    2. If one side brings a recon squad and the other doesn't, the side that doesn't is at a severe disadvantage. Between ECM not allowing target locks making long range fire inaccurate and preventing the use of Guided Missiles and the Recon Squad ability to move flipped initiative cards to the bottom of the deck that weakly armed, poorly armored squad can cause problems way out of proportion to the points spent.

Correct. Have more reconnaissance is always a good thing during a fight. If you know what the enemy is doing and he has no idea what you are then you are going to have an advantage. The expanded initiative deck will lessen this a bit as it will add more cards that will help, especially in smaller games like this.

    3. Overdriven PBG's hurt like hell. Keep them away from you or kill them on the other side of the table.

Yeah if you let them close the range and get good numbers to hit they can really tear holes.

    4. Fire Support Models need Target Locks, and LOS (if possible) in order to use Rockets effectively. The idea of raining Hellfire down on your enemy from a safe distance away is a nice one but in practice without Target Locks the penalties to Long or Extreme range bombardments are too high. I don't think a single IF salvo fired today landed on target. All damage done was from scattered shots.

Trying to rain hellfire with models not specially designed with that idea in mind is hard. Building a force group with that in mind can make a big difference in how effective they are. Most models have rockets for more of a harassing effect. The game is weighted towards direct fire to keep the rocket duels to a minimum and keep the models moving about. The extreme range mod can be overcome with a model with wizzo, a target lock, and 2 models with FCS. In the rules update fire support models will get some help with this. Great tactic is to have a recon model (equipped with rockets) with fire support models, all of them using CFPs. The recon model can lock up the spot and on a successful strike point transfer that to all the others hiding behind a hill. Ouch!

    5. Hover tanks skimming over water look cool. Hover tanks skimming over water and then destroying Super Heavy CAV's in 1 turn look REALLY Cool.

    !!!

P.S. CAVBoss if you're reading this every faction needs to have models for it's Recon Vehicles. They are too damn useful not to use and by my count Malvernis, Ritterlich and Almirithil have none and Adon has the Dragonfly aircraft which is nice and all but it doesn't have ECM.

I've said in the past that if people will tell me where there are holes in model types I can look at filling them in! SO make a list!!!
